Introductory course

This training session is intended for translators and/or project managers with little or no experience of using computer-aided technology (CAT) tools, such as SDL Trados or other CAT tools.

Content

The following overview outlines the contents covered in the training session; the choice of topics and their depth will, however, depend strongly on the participants' previous knowledge. Further topics reflecting participants' grasp of memoQ can be included upon request.

  • Basic principles of computer-aided translation (CAT) technologies 
  • Setting up the working environment in SDL Trados 2009
  • Creation of translation memories (TM), term bases (TB) and AutoSuggest dictionaries (AS)
  • Translating single files in SDL Trados Studio 2009
  • Creating translation projects with several source files and several target languages
  • Working with terminology and SDL MultiTerm during translation
  • Proof-reading and preview of the translated files in SDL Trados Studio 2009
  • Finalizing and creating the translated target files
  • Migrating data from previous SDL Trados versions to the new formats (TM and TB)
  • Data management and compatibility with other CAT tools
  • Data maintenance and data exchange
