Across training for beginners

This training session is intended for translators and/or project managers with little or no experience of using computer-aided technology (CAT) tools, such as Across or other CAT tools. The training can focus on using the Across Personal Edition (PE) or the Across Language Server (LS).

Content

The following overview outlines the contents covered in the training session; the choice of topics and their depth will depend strongly on the participants' previous knowledge however. Further topics reflecting participants' grasp of Across can be included upon request.
Specific topics that only relate to the use of the Across Language Server (LS) will also be part of the session.

• Basic principles of computer-aided translation (CAT) technologies
• Overview of the working environment in Across v5
• Creation of projects in Across
• Tasks distribution, project management (only LS)
• Creation of translation packages (only LS; online/offline, crossWAN, crossGrid)
• Translation, quality assurance during translation
• crossTank - use during translation
• crossTerm - use during translation
• Accepting translations, setting-up translations for proofreading (only LS)
• Proofreading, quality assurance and closing projects
• Delivery, data maintenance and back-ups
